Nuno demanding ruthless streak at Wolves

Nuno Espirito Santo wants his Wolves team to be more clinical in front of goal, despite having claimed their opening Premier League win.

Wolves wasted a number of opportunities against West Ham before Adama Traore netted a 93rd-minute winner at the London Stadium on Saturday.

Nuno had called for his players to start putting away their chances, particularly after several went begging during a 2-0 defeat at Leicester City.

And while delighted to see his side beat the Hammers, Nuno, ever the perfectionist, wants more from Wolves.

“Still we were not clinical enough,” he said.

“I think we still have a lot to improve in all the aspects.

“The difficult part in the game is to create chances, then with the quality of the talent and the player things will arrive naturally.

“But you still have to work and defend very much and stay organised all the time. Stay in the game and don’t make mistakes.

“Small details is what we are looking to improve.”

The victory was Wolves’ first in the Premier League since February 2012 when Mick McCarthy’s team beat QPR 2-1.

It was a euphoric moment for the club’s fans – and Nuno’s players.

“It’s special for the boys,” he added. “We didn’t change since day one, which was last season.

“We play the same way and do the same things.

“Things will happen naturally, it’s a lot easier to work with good results, the belief is a perfect example of that.

“The organisation is the most important part of the game.

“As long as you play the way you train, you are close to winning.

“The boys just have to stay focused on the same tasks they do every day.

“The big challenges are in front of us.”

Nuno is certainly enjoying his time in charge at Molineux, but the head coach said it didn’t matter if the club was in the Premier League or the Championship, his enjoyment would be the same.

“Maybe you’ll think I’m arrogant but for me it’s another big club, more than coaching Premier League, Championship, no, I enjoy coaching Wolverhampton Wanderers, Wolves. This is my club,” he said.

“It requires a lot of energy for all the project we have.

“The club wants big things and it requires a lot of energy to want to build something and create an identity.”

Wolves are selling discounted tickets for their Carabao Cup third round tie against Leicester City later this month.

Wolves take on the Foxes on September 25 and tickets are £15 for adults, £10 for concessions and £5 for under-17s, with free tickets for up to two junior supporters with every two paying adults.
