Steve Bull: First half hour one of Wolves’ recent best

That first half hour against Leicester was one of the best performances I have seen from Wolves in a long time.

Steve Bull offers his thoughts on Wolves

We were absolutely superb, but we didn’t capitalise on our chances and that led to us losing the game.

I think if we had gone 1-0 up, we would have taken the game to Leicester and won the match.

After the way we started, it was very unfortunate for Matt Doherty to score the own goal. I think he is a top player.

It was an eventful game for Doherty and he was lucky he didn’t plant his foot in the ground when he was tackled by Jamie Vardy because that would have finished him for a long time.

Vardy took the ball, but if Doherty had not jumped out of the way, Vardy would have chopped him in half.

I think the whole team played well for the first 40 minutes.

They tried and tried and tried. It is hard to play against 10 men, Leicester defended for their lives.

It was a disappointing result in the end– but that first-half performance showed we can handle it with teams that will be there or thereabouts in the middle of the table.

One area of improvement though needs to be our finishing.

You can say it is unlucky we hit the woodwork three times, but we have got to be more clinical.

You won’t get many chances in the Premier League so the players have got to go out and shoot like it is the only chance they will get.

It is a very punishing league, as we will find out against the champions Manchester City on Saturday.

We will come up against a side that won’t take any prisoners. City want to win the Premier League again and beat whoever gets in their way.

They have scored eight goals in their first two games, so defensively I am a bit worried.

But if I was one of our defenders I would also be very excited – when you get players like they have coming at you, you come out of your shell and it spurs you on to keep a clean sheet.

Saying that, I think it could be a very entertaining game and we could cause an upset.

The way they play and we play, we are two similar sides. Hopefully we will give fans a goal at home and something to cheer about.

Having home advantage will help in the game, but I hope we don’t give them too much respect, as we did against Everton.

We should play in our own way and believe in ourselves – like we did against Man City in the Carabao Cup last season.

We should have beaten them then, so why can’t we do that again?
