The 24-year-old has been in and out the squad in recent weeks as he's been struggling with the problem.

And with no solution forthcoming it's thought he's been told he must rest for a month - meaning a likely absence of at least six weeks.

Cavaleiro suffered the injury while doing gym work.

The winger missed Saturday's opening-day 2-2 draw with Everton at Molineux, with Wolves twice coming from behind thanks to goals from Ruben Neves and debutant Raul Jimenez.

Cavaleiro mostly featured from the bench in pre-season amid speculation that he was set to be sold, particularly after Wolves spent a club record £18million on Adama Traore from Middlesbrough.

He featured for 32 minutes against Stoke, missed the defeat at Derby and then came on as a sub for the final 13 minutes against Villarreal.

At the weekend Nuno said of the 24-year-old: "He's injured. He had a problem in a training session a couple of weeks ago.

"Against Stoke he tried to manage his time. Last week against Villarreal he managed his time. So we're taking care of Ivan on those terms.

"We have to manage his time because he's not totally 100 per cent fit. That's one of the reasons why he wasn't available.

"He needs to rest. First, he needs to feel free of pain, then we can start training him again."
