Wolves lost their first pre-season game of the summer at Pride Park despite Diogo Jota’s equaliser on 67 minutes.

They end their friendly campaign at home to Spanish side Villarreal this Saturday before kicking off their Premier League fixtures at Molineux against Everton on August 11.

Moutinho said: “It was a difficult match but it’s a friendly match, we need to improve and play better and we have one week to train for Villarreal.

“We’re going to train, improve more and do everything to win the next game.

“It was good to get back out, I’m tired but it’s normal. It’s good to be on the pitch and play 45 minutes, I hope to get better and help the team to win.

“I hope to get better with my work between us, we need the training and I need to know more our players and do better than this game.

“It takes time. All the days and weeks we need to work more to get better.

“We have this week to prepare for Villarreal. It’s important to rest and be 100 per cent for that game.”

Youngster Morgan Gibbs-White replaced Portuguese international Moutinho at half time on Saturday.

The 18-year-old said it was an honour to be training alongside the ex-Monaco man, who joined last week in a £5m deal.

“Playing with the likes of Ruben and Joao, it’s an honour. Learning things from them every day is only going to make me a better player,” Gibbs-White said.

“It’s like Joao’s been here for six months, he’s settled in really well. It’s good to have his experience and character in the dressing room.

“Me asking him for advice is the best thing for me to try to improve.

“He’s looked sharp in training and I can’t wait to see him in the Premier League.

“I can tell already he’s a real professional off the pitch so it’s good to learn new things off him.

“The boys are coming together now, we’re two weeks away and we’re ready.”
