The Swiss champions, who begin the defence of their title next weekend, were no match for Nuno Espirito Santo's team.

Goals from Ivan Cavaleiro, Helder Costa, Leo Bonatini and Rafa Mir saw Wolves win their second game of a productive week.

Danny Batth and Conor Coady lifted the huge Uhrencup trophy at full time.

Batth was pleased with the result but also played down its significance. He said: "Their season starts sooner than our but we won't read too much into it, they're good opposition and they've got a good reputation in Europe but at the same time they might have had one eye on the start of the season in terms of using it as a workout.

"We knew all about Young Boys, a strong team, very close to the start of the season, so we're happy with the display we put on.

"All the changes (there were nine substitutions) didn't seem to phase us at all so it was a good result in front of a decent attendance for pre-season.

"The trophy is more for the fans and the competition itself. We're proud to win any game."

Goalkeeper Will Norris replaced John Ruddy at half time – and was himself replaced late on by youngster Andreas Sondergaard.

"It was a good run-out and a good test for the boys and a good afternoon all round," Norris said.

"We're at a good level. We're not where we need to be, just yet, but that's what pre-season is for.

"We'll get there, we just need to do it as soon as possible.

"It was a fair result. We limited their chances and took ours when we did get them, which was pleasing. That's all we can do really.

"I didn't have a huge amount to do, it was more about reading the game."

Defender Ryan Bennett was also satisfied with the 4-0 success.

"It feels good, it's nice to win games straight away," he said. "It's more about the work we've put in this week but it's nice to put it on the pitch and get the results we need.

"We want to be testing ourselves against these teams because we're going to be up against that sort of quality throughout the season.

"We're not fully where we need to be but we're getting there.

"The youngsters coped really well. It's difficult coming in, different ideas and a different way of playing.

"They've embraced it and worked as hard as they can. That's what they need to do.

"There's still a long way to go. The Premier League's got the best players in the world and we need to step up what we did last year. We're looking to do that."
