The former striker reckons the Molineux men can finish 10th, or higher, and it won’t be long before they move on to phase three – to challenge the top clubs in the country.

Eves, who scored 44 goals for Wolves from 1975-84, said: “I am very confident that Wolves will more than hold their own in the Premier League and I don’t think they have got anything to fear.

“I believe Wolves have got as good a chance as any other side to do well. I am sure that Nuno will go and play the same style of football he did last season.

“It is a step up in class going into the Premier League and there are no easy games, but they will be going in with confidence.

“As long as we don’t have any real problems I think we could finish 10th.

“I think it is realistic that we could finish even higher than that in our first season.”

Fosun set out a 10-year-plan after taking over at Wolves for the club to achieve success.

And Eves said the club has now completed step one which was to win promotion from the Championship.

Wolves are ‘one year ahead of schedule’ and are now onto ‘phase two’ which is to establish themselves in the Premier League, said Eves.

He added: “And then phase three will be trying to break into the top six, the top four even, and fight for a place in Europe.

“You walk before you can run but we are probably at the jogging phase now.”

But Eves says it is important that Wolves gets off to a good start in the Premier League.

And he reckons facing Everton in the first game of the season at home will provide a good test for how Wolves will fare for the rest of the campaign. He said: “Our first game against Everton will provide a real indication of where we are because they are probably looking at breaking into the top six.

“If we can win that game and get points on the board early doors it takes the pressure of us whatever pressure there is.”
