Wolves could complete signing of Portugal goalkeeper Rui Patricio next week

The 30-year-old shot-stopper has terminated his contract at Sporting Lisbon after becoming unhappy at the club.

Wolves are now in advanced talks to sign the Portuguese No.1, but it remains unclear whether Wolves would land him on a free or need to pay a fee to Sporting Lisbon.

Reports in Portugal suggest Sporting Lisbon could take Patricio to court and seek compensation if he moves for free.

It comes after Wolves had initially agreed to pay £15.8million for Patricio, only for the deal to fall through at the last minute.

Sporting agency Gestifute – headed up by super-agent Jorge Mendes – claimed Sporting president Bruno de Carvalho asked for an extra £1.75m.

But Sporting accused Gestifute of demanding more than £6m to cover costs around player contracts in order to push through the deal.

Patricio had also been attacked alongside his team-mates by around 50 masked thugs at Sporting’s training ground earlier this year after missing out on a place in next season’s Champions League.

It led to Patricio handing in his resignation at Sporting, where he has made 327 appearances since his debut in 2006. He is currently away with Portugal preparing for this summer’s World Cup.

Other Wolves transfer business will see striker Duckens Nazon join Belgian top-flight side Sint-Truidense VV on a three-year-deal.

The 24-year-old Haiti international signed for Wolves in January 2017, but failed to make a first-team appearance and spent loan spells at Coventry City and Oldham Athletic.

And Millwall have opened talks with Wolves about signing winger Ben Marshall. The 27-year-old impressed on loan there last season and boss Neil Harris is keen on signing him permanently.
