Ruben Neves: I want to stay with Wolves in top flight
Wolves star Ruben Neves has reiterated that he wants to stay with the club in the Premier League.
Speculation continues to spread about Neves’s future, with Liverpool, Spurs, Manchester United and AC Milan among the many big clubs linked with a move for the 21-year-old midfielder.
The Express & Star has been told by senior club officials that they are confident of keeping hold of Neves this summer.
And speaking at yesterday’s open top bus parade of the city to mark Wolves’ promotion to the top flight, Neves said he was looking forward to playing in the top flight – with Wolves.
“I came here to help the club and the club has helped me as well,” Neves told Sky Sports.
“I think we achieved all our goals, as an individual and as a team.
“It is normal as big clubs see our work, not just me but all the boys, but I am really happy here.
“I want to stay here and I want to enjoy the Premier League with this fantastic club.”
Neves joined Wolves for a club record £15million from Porto last summer and has starred in the Championship, earning a nomination for the EFL player of the year award.
He has scored six goals – all glorious strikes from outside the box – and looks set to win a place in Portugal’s squad for this summer’s World Cup in Russia.
Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo thanked supporters for the part they played in Wolves’ success.
“It’s fantastic, fantastic. And I thank them so much,” he said.
“You get emotional when you look back at all the support they gave us, all over the country.
“The connection between the fans and the team really helped us achieve what we did.
“It’s special, it means a lot.”
Another star of Wolves’ season has been converted centre-half Conor Coady.
The former midfielder/right-back said owners Fosun had been ‘incredible’ since buying the club for £30m in 2016.
Coady wants Wolves not just to survive next season, but be aiming higher than that.
“It’s so exciting and you just want to be a part of it, part of this rollercoaster,” Coady said.
“The owners have been incredible since they came in and it’s so refreshing when you see people who want to invest and do well with the football club and that is what they’ve done.
“They’ve taken it to the next level with the manager and we want to keep on building.
“It’s going to be tough next season and we want to survive and do well and kick on.
“It’s about time we got there and now we want to make the most of it.”
