A pair of open top buses carrying Nuno and the team – as well as the Championship trophy – will set off from Wolverhampton Art Gallery on Lichfield Street at noon.

The convoy will head through Queen Square, down Darlington Street before turning into Waterloo Road and heading across the Ring Road.

From there it will turn into Newhampton Road East, Lansdowne Road and along Park Road East.

Thousands of fans are expected to line the route, before the buses head into West Park for a promotion party.

Details on the parade route

The celebrations will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, May 7, and come after talks between the club and Wolverhampton Council as to how to mark the momentous achievement.

Keith Ireland, managing director of Wolverhampton Council, said: “The council recognises that Wolves outstanding season and return to the top flight is an enormous achievement not only for the amazing Wolves fans, but for the entire city.

“We have been working closely with the club, with the support of West Midlands Police, to organise a promotion party which the whole city can enjoy and hope as many people as possible come out to show their pride in Wolves with a sea of gold and black.”

Wolves managing director Laurie Dalrymple said: “Nuno and the squad have a real desire to thank you for the support they have received throughout the season, so thanks goes to everyone involved who has made this event possible.

“Promotion to the Premier League has been a real team effort, and there seems no more fitting way to celebrate it than together, as one city.”

Wolves were confirmed as Championship winners last weekend when they hammered Bolton Wanderers 4-0 away, with goals from Barry Douglas, Benik Afobe, Diogo Jota and Conor Coady.

They last had an open top bus parade through the city to celebrate the 2003 play-off final victory over Sheffield United in Cardiff.

The council has advised that anyone who wants to go to the West Park party will need to arrive by 11.30am before the bus sets off.

Supporters are advised they have to choose to either attend the street parade or the West Park party, which will be shown on a large screen in Queen Square for those who don't attend.

Ticket details for the West Park event will be released via Wolves and the council on Monday.
