Result! Wolves superfan's champion decision to make transatlantic trip from Canada
When Tom Taylor booked his flights from Canada to Wolverhampton to see his favourite team play, he had no idea of the absolute euphoria which was to come.
The 56-year-old bought his tickets on a whim back in July last year when the new Championship season had just begun.
Deliberating when best to make his eagerly-anticipated trip, he decided to choose to come to the UK during April because he realised the way the games fell meant he could fit six action-packed matches into just three weeks.
But little did he realise he was going to watch his beloved team become champions.
Tom said: “I had no idea they were going to do so well. I only did it as I realised I could get six games in three weeks. But it turned out to be great, I honestly can’t believe it.
“Whenever I tell people they say ‘oh I know why you booked to come around this time, they’re doing so well’, but I didn’t even know how well they were going to do.”
Tom has lived in Ontario for the last nine years, after moving away from the UK to live with his partner.
Born in Lichfield, he began supporting Wolves when he was just a boy – thanks to his older brother’s friend being a fan.
And since being back in the UK, he admitted he has spent more than £300 on new Wolves memorabilia in the Wolves Megastore, so he can remember these past six weeks for many years to come.
He added: “I don’t think I’ll be coming back to Wolverhampton for a long time now, so I wanted to get everything while I can.
“I watch the games on TV at home in Canada, but it’s been amazing watching it live here.”
Tom’s incredible football journey started with the Middlesbrough away game on March 30 which saw Wolves claim a 2-1 victory. He then saw the Wanderers play Hull City at Molineux on April 3 where they finished 2-2.
The Cardiff City away game came next, when Wolves came out on top 1-0 on April 6, and then five days later on April 11 they beat DerbyCounty at home with a score of 2-0 – the match which saw Ruben Neves score his wonder goal.
His final two games were home against Birmingham, where again they celebrated a 2-0 win, and the most recent Bolton away game, which saw Wolves crowned as champions following their four-goal hammering of the home side.
Tom travelled back to Canada on Sunday, having seen Wolves not lose a single game.
