Steve Bull: Matt Doherty and Barry Douglas get recognition they deserve
It’s back to domestic duties for Wolves now but how great was it to see Barry Douglas and Matt Doherty win their first international caps during the break.
They both thoroughly deserve it and I know everyone at the club will be especially delighted for Doherty who’s been at Wolves for many years now and come close to making his Ireland debut on many occasions.
Both wing-backs have been very consistent throughout the season, they bomb up and down those flanks week after week and add goals and assists as well as chasing back.
It’s a very demanding task but they’ve been solid and a key part of Wolves’ success.
They’ll both be thinking there could be plenty of caps to come, especially if they’re playing for Wolves in the Premier League.
They’re among the more senior players in that dressing room and it was good to see Ryan Bennett say that they’re dishing out advice to some of the younger players.
You’d certainly expect that and it looks like Wolves have got a good blend of youth and experience.
It’s Hull next up on Tuesday night and Nuno will be thinking that it’ll be just as hard as playing Middlesbrough.
Hull are fighting for their lives and that’s always a dangerous game at this time of the season as they’ll have the desire for the points just as much as Wolves will.
There are four games left and if Wolves keep their home form up they’ll be promoted, as simple as that.
Away from Wolves I was honoured to attend England v Italy at Wembley in midweek – they even gave me a seat in the royal box!
It was great to see some of my old international team-mates like Peter Shilton, Peter Beardsley, Dave Beasant and David Seaman.
The stadium is absolutely brilliant and it was a great occasion.
It wasn’t the best result for England – there were parts of the game where they looked comfortable and parts where they looked a bit shaky.
It’ll be interesting to see how they get on in Russia. The team lacks the stars of previous years but if they can mould as a cohesive team they could surprise a few people.
