Niall Ennis bags double for Wolves youngsters as Romania U21s visit
Niall Ennis scored twice as Wolves Under-23s drew 2-2 against Romania Under-21s in a one-off friendly encounter yesterday.
Romania had played England at Molineux on Saturday and this game was played at the Birmingham CFA headquarters.
Ennis, who spent a frustrating first half of the season on the treatment table after being loaned to Shrewsbury, put Scott Sellars’ side back on terms on the hour mark after they had fallen behind.
The striker netted again 10 minutes later – but Romania equalised from a corner in what was the last action of the game.
Wolves’ side featured Jordan Graham, Swiss youth international Ming-Yang Yang and Danish youngster Oskar Buur Rasmussen, who played in the Carabao Cup win over Bristol Rovers.
The draw came after Sellars slammed his players for lacking passion, work ethic and bravery in their defeat to Blackburn Rovers a day earlier.
With two games in two days Sellars selected an experimental line-up for the match at Molineux on Monday evening, saving his first-choice players for the Romania clash.
He reversed praise for youngsters Owen Otasowie, Austin Samuels and Diego Lattie but strongly criticised the senior players in his team, saying they ‘didn’t enjoy the challenge’ and weren’t brave enough.
“I didn’t see a Wolves team,” Sellars said. “I didn’t see hard work, I didn’t see any intensity or passion to play for the shirt and I thought it was a poor performance. Blackburn thoroughly deserved to win.
“I thought it was a poor performance from minute one to 90.
“Owen was the shining light. He showed composure on the ball and made things happen.
“Austin showed glimpses of what he’s about, he’s only just come back from injury. Diego when he came on looked composed. The young boys took the challenge on and got on with it.
“I thought the more senior boys didn’t really enjoy the challenge and weren’t brave enough.”
