Scott Sellars slams Wolves U23s after Blackburn defeat
Wolves Under-23 boss Scott Sellars has slammed his players for lacking passion, work ethic and bravery after they were easily beaten by Blackburn.
Goals from Willem Tomlinson, Tyler Magloire and Joe Nuttall saw Rovers run out 3-0 winners at Molineux last night.
Sellars selected an experimental side, saving his first-choice players for a game against Romania Under-21s on Tuesday afternoon at 3pm (being played at Birmingham County Football Association).
He reversed praise for youngsters Owen Otasowie, Austin Samuels and Diego Lattie but strongly criticised the senior players in his team, saying they "didn't enjoy the challenge" and weren't brave enough.
"I didn't see a Wolves team," Sellars said. "I didn't see hard work, I didn't see any intensity or passion to play for the shirt and I thought it was a poor performance. Blackburn thoroughly deserved to win.
"Very disappointing, I thought it was a poor performance from minute one to 90.
"Owen was the shining light of the night. He showed composure on the ball and made things happen.
"Austin showed glimpses of what he's about, he's only just come back from injury. Diego when he came on looked composed. The young boys took the challenge on and got on with it.
"I thought the more senior boys didn't really enjoy the challenge and weren't brave enough."
Of the decision to split his squad for two matches in two days, Sellars added: "We're going to play Romania Under-21s tomorrow and as a staff we thought that'd be the best game for the starting XI that play most weeks, so we gave other boys a chance to play.
"Some of those boys have been told they're getting released so it was an opportunity for scouts to come and get a look at that, but they didn't put themselves in any shining light.
"You have to make a decision. We sat down and said let's look at the weekend, we've got Blackburn under-18s at the weekend and that was very young, we've got a lot of players away on international duty.
"We thought no disrespect to Blackburn, we're probably going to play them a lot over the next 10 years. To play against a team like Romania...they showed on Saturday, I came to watch, they're a really good team who gave a lot of Premier League players a really big challenge.
"For our young players it's going to be an opportunity we're not going to be able to recreate regularly."
Wolves: Beasley, Ofosu-Ayeh (Lattie 67), Osbourne, Reymao (Finnie 60), Goodliffe, John, Hanne, Otasowie (Allan 74), Samuels, Xavier, Seedorf.
