Hundreds of sporting memorabilia items which belonged to Wolves stalwart John ‘Foz’ Hendley are being auctioned off today.

Much-loved former club historian and programme editor Foz died at the start of the year aged 67.

He was associated with the club for decades and officially started working there in 1999.

Foz was an avid collector of sports memorabilia and the collection includes hundreds of Wolves programmes.

The most expensive listed item is a plaque from the 1959 Charity Shield final, in which Wolves beat Nottingham Forest 3-1, which could reach up to £500.

Many of the programmes are so rare they are expected to fetch three figures, including one from the 1942 Football League War Cup Final.

For the only time in the competition’s history the final was played over two legs and the programme in question is from the second game at Molineux, which Wolves won 4-1 in front of 43,038 to clinch the cup 6-3 on aggregate.

The programme has a guide price of £180-£200.

A programme from a 1934 Division One clash between Wolves and Villa is listed at up to £300.

And a 1939 FA Cup semi final programme from Old Trafford – where Wolves beat Grimsby to reach the final – could get up to £260. The game is notable for setting the Old Trafford record attendance of 76,962, which still stands to this day.

Other rare items from Foz’s collection include a programme from a 1967 tour match between Dallas Tornado and Los Angeles Wolves, held at the Cotton Bowl Stadium, which is expected to fetch up to £100.

A trio of Albion programmes from Black Country derby clashes between Wolves and Albion have been given a guide price of up to £120, with the matches from 1944, 1945 and 1946.

Other programmes include one from every game of Wolves’ run to the 1960 FA Cup final where they beat Blackburn at Wembley (plus tickets from each match), European Cup clashes versus Barcelona and Red Star Belgrade and a 1951 tour match against Eastern Transvaal, which is listed at £180.

The Mullock’s Auction begins at 10:30am today at Ludlow Racecourse and bidding is also available online via this link.

Wolves said: “It’s hoped Foz’s impressive collection can be enjoyed and treasured by supporters with a similar passion for memorabilia.”
