Former Wolves and Shrewsbury Town midfielder Dave Edwards retires from international football

Wales manager Ryan Giggs confirmed the news when he announced his squad for the China Cup.

The midfielder calls time on his international career having made 43 appearances over 11 years. He made his debut in 2007 against the Republic of Ireland.

His final appearance came in November, when Wales drew 1-1 with Panama in an international friendly.

The 32-year-old was a regular player for the nation through the European Championships in France, in which they reached semi-finals, losing 2-0 to eventual champions Portugal.

Edwards made over 200 appearances for Wolves before departing for Reading in the summer, after beginning his career at Shrewsbury Town.

Ryan Giggs thanked Edwards for his services after announcing that he'd decided to give up international football.

"Dave Edwards has retired. I’d like to thank him for everything he’s done for Wales. He’s been a tremendous servant for the country." he said.
