Wolves fans back South Bank expansion at Molineux
Wolves fans have welcomed the prospect of a larger single tier South Bank as the club prepares initial proposals for a Molineux expansion.
As revealed in the Express & Star on Saturday, the stand could be almost doubled in size to almost 10,000 seats.
Any redevelopment of the stadium isn't likely to start for another year at least, with Wolves set to focus their financial efforts on the team next season if promotion to the Premier League is secured.
But ambitious owners Fosun are exploring what a revamped Molineux would entail and the club is in negotiations over buying land directly behind the South Bank, which is owned by liquidated firm Carillion.
Supporters backed the developments on social media, with Twitter user Duma365 saying: "A single tier home end would be an excellent development. The new Spurs ground will also have a single tier home end. Fans want their ground to be distinctive, plus better for atmosphere especially if pricing sensible."
Meanwhile Phibel69 added: "It was a noticeable thing for me when they opened new North Bank, atmosphere just doesn't get going like it used to in the old single tier. Said it on more than a few occasions, hope they do go for single tier, atmosphere would be superb with 10,000 fans singing."
Michael Walton said: "Glad it's going to be a single tier, the North Bank two tiered stand looks utterly ridiculous and hard to generate atmosphere in a double tiered stand.
"Interesting that they're going to wait till we stay up first. Sensible I think let's establish ourselves first then do the ground."
Ben Mortimer added: "I've always said it, that stand will become the new yellow wall of England football. Just like Dortmund's."
Richard Ralph said: "Excellent. Dear architect, Make the roof slope down towards the front to keep the sound in. Goosebumps already.
And Phil Foster added: "Good idea to increase South Bank before the Steve Bull as capacity would too low whilst Steve Bull stand getting built."
Molineux has been sold out on a number of occasions this season but on the Express & Star comments section Phil Barlow warned that the club should be wary how large the capacity of a rebuilt stadium would be.
He said: "Sounds probably the best idea yet, do not want a symmetrical bowl ground at all costs. Just hope we don't get carried away by this 'Dortmund' rubbish. tacky and cringey as anything i find them.
"Anyway, less talk of 50,000 seater stadiums, we still can't sell out Leeds away when top of the league and I guarantee we'll struggle with Cardiff too."
