The 26-year-old will be with the Rapids for the whole of the MLS season, which runs until October.

Mason will join ex-team mate Jack Price who recently signed for the Rapids on a permanent deal, signing a four-and-a-half year contract.

Another former Wolves man Neil Emblen has also just moved to the club as a coach.

Mason said: "“This is an exciting new chapter of my career.

"I’m very grateful for the support shown by everyone at Wolves during my time there but the Rapids are an ambitious club and I can’t wait to get to Colorado, meet the guys, and help this team reach its goals."

Mason spent the first half of the season on loan at Championship side Burton Albion.

He has made only 18 league starts for Wolves since joining from Cardiff in a £3million deal in January 2016.

Rapids general manager Padraig Smith said of Mason: "There’s no doubt that Joe will be a major boost to our front line.

"His finishing and movement in and around the box is very intelligent. He’ll not only help us from a goal scoring standpoint, but he’s also the type of player who makes those around him better.

"We look forward to welcoming him to Colorado."
