Wolves reaping rewards of time away, says Conor Coady
Conor Coady insists Wolves’ winter break has been a huge factor in their Championship resurgence.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s men have been in fine fettle since returning from a week-long trip to Marbella, winning all three of their league games.
The table-toppers had gone four games without a win across all competitions before their stay in the sun last month, and Coady said: “It’s been huge.
“I don’t think the football club had done something like that in a long time.
“It was a great idea. We went there and had a great week of working hard and getting things done.
“All the boys were together – we stayed together and had dinner, things like that.
“It was a fantastic week and something I think all the boys needed to really kick on.
“Everybody is sticking together. The team spirit within the squad and within the club is on a different level – it is fantastic.
“We all know where we are and what we want to do. We just want to keep improving, keep getting better.”
Coady has worn the captain’s armband for the majority of the season and feels Wolves’ forward players have looked fresher in the last few weeks.
Helder Costa appears to be getting back to his best while Ivan Cavaleiro and Diogo Jota have put in some top-notch displays.
“It’s a pleasure to be playing with these boys, the way they’re playing at the minute – in full flow,” said Coady.
“It’s an absolute pleasure to watch, to be behind them and be organised. It’s superb.
“The last couple of weeks have been really good.
“They’re scoring plenty of goals and doing really well.
“The club are really lucky to have them here. And as long as we have them here, hopefully we’ll keep winning games.”
Coady made a goal-saving block as Wolves beat QPR 2-1 at home on Saturday.
The hosts dominated the first half but had to deal with a lot of pressure in the second.
On that performance, Coady added: “It’s such a tough league to play in and it was a game of two halves, really.
“I thought we were outstanding in the first half – we moved the ball and scored two fantastic goals.
“It was about digging in and being resilient. The boys have showed that a lot this season and we did it again on Saturday.”
