What a fantastic Wolves season since I stopped writing fan reports for the E&S eh? In spite of recent grumblings amongst the faithful, I still us proceeding nicely and all being well, the so-called promised land awaits, writes Peter Abbott.

In recent weeks since the incredible performances and superb results during November, we enjoyed three great 1-0 wins out of the four just before Christmas, the other being an unfortunate 0-0 outcome from the one-way traffic encounter with Sunderland.

A very good point followed at difficult Millwall, two more cracking wins after that including the remarkable, televised last-minute comeback at Bristol City.

We were only missing an elusive killer touch last week at Barnsley and at the weekend, to be fair, we all agreed it was a poor performance. However what we would have done for such a deflection ourselves before Forest scored. Optimism, eh?

This week, all Wolves fans will be hoping that the warm weather training camp both shakes up and knots together the squad still further as we embark on an important phase in our goal.

We are at Ipswich this Saturday, where I have lived for the past 12 years. I thought it appropriate to study the Championship promotions during that period.

From 28 games Wolves have already banked 62 points so with a further 54 points to go at, we could hit 116...very doubtful. We could lose another four games and draw say, six others, which brings the possible total down to 92 points. Would that be enough?

In only half of the last 12 seasons have the champions won more than 92 points. The remaining champions achieved between 80 and 90 points.

On only two occasions have runners-up mustered more than 92 and they both achieved 93, which is the record number for second place during that time. The remaining runners-up achieved from 79 to 91 points ,with only two of those chalking up more than 89 points.

For Wolves to 'only' gain 30 additional points, we need eight wins and six draws. Not such a tall order when we’re amongst friends.

However it will be seen as quite a challenge amongst those who are currently worrying about poorer performances and results these last couple of weeks and our fellow challengers.

But, remembering those 12 seasons, it is very likely that we will 'need' to get to 92.

Here in Ipswich on Saturday I foresee another tough game, but we’ve had plenty of those already in this remarkable season and come out on top.

As you will gather, all-in-all, I’m not concerned at this juncture mainly because the style and application of our play beggars belief when compared to recent seasons.

I sincerely hope that I am right to have condemned Albion’s 11-point turnaround season in 2001/02 to the bin, the detail of which is suitably removed from my memory bank. I’m sure Albion fans will see it differently and it does give them something to tax themselves with when watching their own misfits struggle to win points in the Premier League.

Anyway, there it is, my mid-season offerings, the seed of a mini-repost to those that cannot see the future.
