Conor Coady: Wolves not thinking about record Championship points haul

Captain Conor Coady claims Wolves are not thinking about the possibility of becoming Championship record breakers as they continue to set a ferocious pace at the top.

Saturday’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town saw the leaders stretch their advantage over second-placed Cardiff to seven points.

A haul of 54 points at the midway mark of the campaign means Nuno Espirito Santo's men are on course to break Reading’s record second tier points haul of 106, set during the 2005/06 season.

But speaking ahead of today’s trip to Millwall, Coady insists the focus at Molineux remains very much on the short-term.

“The points record is a massive one and no-one at the club is thinking about that at the minute,” he said.

“We had a conversation with the manager in the week and he said it's not about points, it's not about thinking where we can get to, it's about winning football matches and that will take us to where we want to go.

“No-one in the dressing room is talking about points, or how many games we have to win.

“It's about winning every single game possible.”

Nine of the last ten teams to top the Championship at Christmas went on to gain promotion, the only exception being Watford in 2008.

But Coady replied: “There you go, it is not 10 out of 10 is it? We just want to keep on going, keep listening to the manager, keep improving in the way we are going and hopefully keep on winning games.

“Listen, loads of teams have been points clear at Christmas before and we know what is stake, we know what is up there.

“But we just want to keep on winning games. The boys are playing well at the minute. It doesn't matter whether you win 1-0 or 5-0. A win is a win, another three points on the board for us.

“Things are going really well at the moment. We need to keep on sticking together, keep on winning and keep on improving and see where it takes us.”
