Former Aston Villa and Walsall star Paul Merson shares Molineux memories alongside Wolves legend Steve Bull

Former Arsenal, Villa and Walsall midfielder Paul Merson told stories about his glittering playing career to help raise funds for the Steve Bull Foundation.

Merson, who is equally famous for his role as a pundit on Sky Sports, teamed up with the legendary Wolves striker to entertain a captivated audience of football fans at Molineux.

The 49-year-old, who also had a spell managing the Saddlers, told stories about his time trophy-laden time at Arsenal and also commented on the 21 caps he won for England while also discussing his television career.

And the star admitted he thoroughly enjoyed his time back at Molineux.

“I have known Bully (Steve Bull) and his wife Kirsty a long time so when they asked me to come up and help out it wasn’t a problem at all,” he said.

“They are good people who do a lot of work for charity. It’s great to help them and great for me personally to be back at Molineux.

“I got a standing ovation here one day when I played for Villa in a pre-season friendly. I came off and everybody stood up – I’ll never forget it.

“I also scored a good goal here for Portsmouth in the year we went up, it was a good free-kick.

“If you didn’t like playing here you were struggling – what a stadium, what a pitch.

“And I’d love to see them go up because they have been waiting a long time.

“You talk about loyal supporters, these are loyal supporters. And they deserve it.”
