Wolves man Morgan Gibbs-White's delight at World Cup win

Wolves starlet Morgan Gibbs-White said he was speechless after playing a key role in England winning the Under-17 World Cup in India.

Gibbs-White scored England's second goal as they can from 2-0 down to thrash Spain 5-2 in front of a huge 60,000 crowd to win the tournament for the first time.

Talented young attacking midfielder Gibbs-White, from Stafford, was watched by his father Kirk and Wolves academy chief Gareth Prosser in Kolkata.

And more than three million were watching back home with the final screened live on BBC2.

Gibbs-White took to Twitter after the win and said: "SPEECHLESS!! Best U17 team in the world. Boys did excellent to win from being 2-0 down vs Spain, happy to score, ️world champions baby."

Gibbs-White played in all seven of England's games.

He was a substitute for the three group games, victories over Chile (4-0), Mexico (3-2) and Iraq (4-0). The 17-year-old also came off the bench for the penalty shoot-out win over Japan in the second round.

Gibbs-White started and scored in the 4-1 quarter final victory over USA and kept his place in the XI for the semi final, a 3-1 win against Brazil and then last night's final versus Spain.

Of England's starting XI, only Gibbs-White and Fulham's Steve Sessegnon aren't with Premier League clubs. The rest play for Chelsea, Manchester City, Liverpool and Spurs.

Gibbs-White has been with Wolves for nine years having been spotted playing for Stafford Juniors in an under-8s Sunday league tournament in Penkridge.

He became one of Wolves' youngest ever senior players when he came on as a substitute in last season's 2-0 FA Cup victory away at Premier League side Stoke City.

The former Sir Graham Balfour High pupil was aged just 16 years, 11 months and 11 days when he replaced Joe Mason 61 minutes into the game.

Gibbs-White made his league debut a month later, again as a substitute in the 1-0 defeat to Wigan at Molineux, before being handed his full debut by Paul Lambert in a 3-1 loss at Bristol City in April.

In total he made eight appearances for the first team last season before injury ruled him out of the final two matches and then the start of pre-season for 2017/18.

However after his starring role in India the youngster will now look to force his way into Nuno Espirito Santo's first-team plans.
