Will Norris

Unbeatable. Four Carabao Cup appearances, four clean sheets. The first goalkeeper to stop City from scoring since David De Gea for Manchester United in April...not bad for a guy who was in League Two with Cambridge United four months ago. This competition is so often a platform for fringe players to show the boss what they can do...well Norris has certainly done that. Such was Wolves' awesome defensive rigidity, Norris didn't have to make any 'top drawer' saves but he repelled everything that came his way and more importantly was a commanding presence in the penalty area, claiming endless crosses with a real air of authority. And the one mistake he made – a scuffed clearance to Aguero – he immediately recompensed by diving at Aguero's feet to clear. Outstanding. 9/10

Danny Batth

A captain's performance if ever there was one. Batth led by example and both he and Ryan Bennett ensured that Gabriel Jesus barely got a sniff all night, locking out the right side of Wolves' defence. Exceptional positioning all night and a series of vital blocks and clearances. 9/10

Conor Coady

It was a cruel twist of fate that Coady missed from the spot, but he could hold his head high after a magnificent performance. Lost count of the amount of times he was that all-important spare man at the back, covering and intercepting at just the right moment. Aguero's influence lessened as a result and that's about as high a compliment as can be paid. Along with Batth he is such an important leadership figure in this squad. 9/10

Kortney Hause

First game since May...in front of 50,000 people...against Aguero, Jesus and Sterling...and Hause was a colossus. Nothing fazed him, he was cool under pressure and threw his body on the line to stop a couple of certain goals. Hause had a habit of doing this last season too, casually dropping into the team at Stoke and Liverpool away to completely boss the opposition. A ridiculously mature performance from the 22-year-old who showed Nuno exactly what he's capable of. 9/10

Ryan Bennett

Bennett played a couple of games at right wing back in pre-season and looked a fish out of water, but here he was a crucial component in quelling the influence of a £27million striker in Gabriel Jesus. Essentially Bennett was a right back, although he did venture forward on a few occasions in the second half. Between him and Batth they had that side of the field on complete lock down. Deeply impressive. Used all his experience to keep things simple and straightforward. He was shattered towards the end but still launched himself at the ball to get a crucial deflection on Sane's top-corner-bound shot in the second period of extra time. 9/10

Alfred N'Diaye

Lined up against his hero Yaya Toure...and outshone him in midfield. He and Price formed an effective barrier in front of what was a Wolves back five. It was also N'Diaye's job to break forward when he could and there were a couple of occasions when he was a decent pass away from being through on goal. Expended a tremendous amount of energy in one of a number of selfless, workmanlike performances in the side. Slipped when taking his penalty but that won't detract from a very good defensive display. 8/10

Jack Price

Signed a new contract on Monday and then more than held his own against Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundagon on Tuesday – not a bad 24 hours for the academy product. Produced a few really good tackles to stop City in full flow and helped move Wolves up the field in the second half as they tried to take the game to City. Recycled the ball quickly and efficiently, which is exactly what Wolves needed him to do. 8/10

Ruben Vinagre

What a huge test for the youngster on only his ninth ever senior appearance. He endured a really tough time in the first half with Sterling constantly getting in behind him, but the teenager stuck to his task manfully and improved as the game went on. It would have been nice to see what more he could have done going forward, as the manner in which he roasted Kyle Walker in extra time was breathtaking. 7/10

Helder Costa

A few fleeting moments here and there on the counter attack but otherwise he did struggle to get into the game. Had a great chance in the second half but a poor touch took him too close to the keeper, which was indicative of his current rustiness. Great work ethic though on a night when Wolves spent so much time defending. The more he plays, the better he'll get. 7/10

Bright Enobakhare

On one hand, a quite electrifying performance in which he had the clear beating of £30million defender Mangala and worked his way into three fantastic shooting opportunities. On the other hand, he could have scored a hat-trick and he should have been the hero who fired Wolves into the quarter finals. The 19-year-old – and his age is obviously a factor in everything that's said here – was inconsolable at full time, when he was substituted having suffered with cramp. It will take all of Nuno's man management skills to A) get the best out of Bright and B) help him get over what will have been a crushing evening for the youngster. This kid is ridiculously talented – there's so much to work with, but also a fair bit to work on. 8/10

Ben Marshall

An important contribution at both ends of the pitch. Was Wolves' link man on the counter attack and teed up two chances with an outswinging free kick for Bennett's header and then a lovely slipped through ball for Costa's big chance. His defensive work shouldn't be overlooked either – he switched flanks after half an hour to help protect Vinagre and it worked. Great effort all round. 8/10

Substitutes

Connor Ronan (for Marshall, 73)

A really lively cameo from Ronan who looked back to his old self. Showed great awareness and then played a perfectly weighted pass for that golden Enobakhare chance at the end of 90 minutes. Came into his own in extra time down the right flank when he gave City all kinds of trouble. 8/10

Ivan Cavaleiro (for Costa, 78)

A team performance from Cavaleiro who did his bit defensively, with his attacking exertions restricted to a couple of crosses and a weak shot at Claudio Bravo. 7/10

Leo Bonatini (for Enobakhare, 90)

As with Cavaleiro most of Bonatini's performance was about defending from the front. Wolves' only man to score from the spot – his second successful penalty in four days. 7/10

Subs not used: Burgoyne, Miranda, Doherty, Deslandes.
