200-club Danny Batth is steeled for Wolves battle

Double-centurion Danny Batth says Wolves have got the mental toughness for the fight this year.

Batth reached 200 appearances for the club in Saturday’s 4-0 win at Burton.

The game saw Wolves bounce back from just their second defeat of the campaign three days earlier when losing 2-0 at Sheffield United. And Batth thinks the response shown by Nuno Espirito Santo’s side is a good sign for the long months ahead. “Saturday answered a lot of questions,” Batth said. “The players showed their resilience and mental toughness.

“It was all about having the right attitude. I think we were licking our wounds a bit after Wednesday. You take it on the chin and it’s about how you react – it’s only one defeat and we have to make sure it doesn’t become a string of results.

“Burton had an extra day so we knew we had to be right on it from the start – that’s what the league requires.

“We’ve spoken about starting game stronger, putting teams on the back foot. That’s something we need to keep working on.

“We’ve not been that fast out the traps for some time. If we can take that into the next batch of games we’ll be halfway there. The football was sublime at times. The clean sheet pleases me more but three points are the aim. We’re proud of the result, we’ve done well in the past few games but we don’t be sitting back and revelling in this.

“We’ve got to kick on and show what we’re made of.

Academy graduate Batth, from Brierley Hill, joined the 200 club for Wolves.

He said he’d do anything for the club – but again warned of getting too carried away with the team’s current form.

“Two-hundred games – if you’d have told me that at the start I’d have snapped your hand off,” he added. “It’s a landmark for myself and my family and all the people who’ve got me here.

"I keep pushing myself to be good for the club and push myself higher. I’ve always been a person who wants to maximise my ability and I’ll do whatever it takes – I’ll sacrifice my lifestyle and make sure I dedicate myself to the game.

“Hopefully the fans see how badly I want to do well for this club – I want to drag this club along with me.

“We’ve got a great squad now and we look set to make a real fist of it.

“It’s a good time to be here but I won’t rest on my laurels. The next setback is always around the corner.”
