Wolves transfer news: Who is Jurgen Locadia?
Wolves are keen to land PSV striker Jurgen Locadia, but who is the Dutchman, and can he bring goals to Wolves?
Luke Hatfield takes a look at the 23-year-old forward to find out if he could be the real deal as Wolves hunt for his signature.
Who is Jurgen Locadia?
Details:
Age: 23
Position: Striker/winger
National Team: Netherlands
What kind of player is Jurgen Locadia?
One of the current crop of promising Dutch players over recent years, Locadia had spent his entire senior career at PSV, working alongside some big names including Memphis Depay, Luuk De Jong and Luciano Narsingh before being linked with Wolves.
Best positioned as a centre-forward, he is capable of playing from the wing, but given Wolves' thin options up top will almost certainly be played a striking role should he join.
Strong and powerful, he's also able to link up play effectively in and around the penalty area too, as well as possessing a powerful strike that can cause serious problems for opposing goalkeepers.
He's got a fair bit of pace, which can trouble leggy defenders and he can hit a decent free-kick too, which is always a handy asset.
However, he's still not the finished article by any means, as you'd expect from someone his age, and doesn't offer too much defensively.
How prolific is he?
Given his age, Locadia has found the net regularly for PSV throughout his career.
His best year at the Dutch club came in the 2013/14 season, in which he scored 13 goals in 31 league games, as well as scoring in his side's Champions League campaign.
This season he's scored one goal in three league games, whilst last year he managed three in 14. However he was forced to miss 27 games last season through a mixture of groin and knee injuries.
What has he said about playing in England?
Locadia has made no secret of his desire to play football in England, stating that he dreams of playing in the Premier League with current table-toppers Manchester United.
However, unlike fellow dutchman Depay, he doesn't plan on making the jump straight into the limelight at such a large club.
"Manchester United is my dream, but via an intermediate step." Locadia said, speaking to Dutch broadcaster NOS.
“I like the path Georginio Wijnaldum has walked, from Newcastle United to Liverpool.”
So, it's clear that he sees Wolves as an opportunity to make the first step across to English football, although fans should be wary that if he impresses, his head may be turned if a big name comes in for him.
What is Jurgen Locadia capable of?
There are numerous highlight packages online showcasing the 23-year-old striker's skills - however, if they're anything to go by Wolves could be picking up a real talent.
Will Locadia cut it at Championship level?
It's tough to say. Whilst he show's plenty of promise and fine eye for goal, he could be yet another player to fall foul of the transition from Dutch football to the English game.
He certainly has the tools to come good, with his physical stature and abilities suiting him to the rough and tumble of the second tier.
Only time will tell if he can do the business for Wolves on a consistent basis if he does head to Molineux.
