Wolves pay tribute to 'gentleman' Dave Edwards as he departs for Reading
Wolves boss Nuno Espirito Santo has thanked 'gentleman' David Edwards as he departs the club – with the midfielder admitting the move came out of the blue.
Edwards left Molineux after nine-and-a-half years to join the Royals in a £1million deal which was announced on Saturday afternoon.
After Wolves' 0-0 draw at Brentford Nuno said of the 31-year-old: "My words are very honest...thank you Dave. From day one working with us he was a gentleman.
"I wish him all the best in his career. He's a man of character. I had the pleasure to be with him and we were very straight when we spoke to each other.
"The situation is solved. All the best for Dave and for all his years he's been in Wolves."
Edwards has penned a two-year deal with the Royals, who also snapped up Jon Dadi Bodvarsson from Wolves last month.
The Welsh international said he wasn't expecting to leave the club but was excited about his new challenge.
"It's been a bit of a whirlwind the past few days," Edwards told Reading's official website. "I've been at Wolves for such a long time. I wasn't expecting this to happen at the start of the season but the way the pre-season panned out, not being in the team, I'. so grateful a club of Reading's size have wanted to take me on a permanent deal.
"It's very exciting. I'm so used to my drive at work to Wolves, I'm from Shropshire and very comfortable in the whole situation so this is out of my comfort zone.
"I probably needed a new challenge. Footballers don't usually hang around that long. I've got to thank Wolves for everything they've done for me.
"It's come around quite quickly, decisions have had to be made. When you see the way Reading played last year it was a no-brainer to me.
"It's a club I was excited about joining."
Meanwhile a number of Wolves players have tweeted their thanks to Edwards as he departs for the Madejski:
