Wolves legends join fans to raise £10k during 24-hour penalty marathon honouring Carl Ikeme
Wolves legends joined dedicated fans as a marathon 24-hour penalty shoot-out finished today raising more than £10,000 in honour of Carl Ikeme.
The goalkeeper found out he had leukaemia last month and is undergoing treatment.
Tributes have poured in from across the footballing world for the 31-year-old.
And the club worked with fan Steve Plant on the footballing fundraiser ahead of Wolves’ first home game of the season against Middlesbrough this afternoon.
The event has raised money for the Cure Leukaemia charity.
It was announced that the event has brought in more than £10,000 - smashing its £5,000 target - as it drew to a close at 10am.
Former Wolves star Jody Craddock and his son Toby helped bring the event to a close this morning
Ex-player Matt Murray also came down to support the event which saw penalties taken in Wolfie’s Den, next to the megastore.
Steve Bull proved he has not lost his touch when he smashed in two penalties at the Molineux fundraiser.
The club’s all-time record goalscorer got the charity shoot-out under way by placing the ball in the bottom right corner.
And to the joy of organisers, Bully then smashed his second strike into a bin in the top left corner.
Current squad members, including Dave Edwards and Danny Batth, also attended the event.
Bully, who dispensed with trainers for smart black shoes, said: “The first was a bit of a fake because he said ‘I am going to dive that way’ but he wouldn’t have saved it anyway.
"The second one was right in the bin – and with these shoes on as well.
“Carl is a big 6ft 6in giant, but he is gentle giant, he is an absolutely great keeper with superb demand of the box and is a bit of joker in the changing room.”
Young fans also got to test out their skills during the event.
Express & Star's Tim Spiers and Nathan Judah also joined in to take their spot kicks
