Former boss Mick McCarthy slams Wolves' 'outrageous' spending
Former Wolves boss Mick McCarthy has branded Wolves' summer spending as 'outrageous'.
The Ipswich Town manager has been left flabbergasted by the amount of money Championship clubs have spent during the transfer window.
Relegated Middlesbrough are the biggest spenders to date, having forked out over £30m on the likes of Britt Assomobalonga, Matin Braithwaite and Darren Randolph.
Meanwhile Wolves have broken their own transfer record, signing Ruben Neves for £15m along with another six permanent deals (together with three loans).
"I think it is outrageous - but don't get me wrong if I had it, I would spend it.
"I get Middlesbrough signing their players because of the parachute payments.
"Bristol City spent £5m on a striker (Famara Diedhiou) and Wolves spent £15m on a holding midfield player for heaven's sake - they already have a £13m winger (Helder Costa, signed in January)."
Ipswich were in advanced talks to take Jon Dadi Bodvarsson on a season long loan, but were gazumped by Reading who spent £3m to bring the Icelandic international to the Madejski Stadium in a permanent deal.
