Jonjo Shelvey: I've learnt nothing from Romain Saiss racial abuse charge
Jonjo Shelvey claims he's learned nothing from the FA's decision to ban him for racially abusing Wolves midfielder Romain Saiss.
Shelvey decided not to appeal a five-game ban and a £100,000 fine after the FA found him guilty of racially abusing Saiss during Wolves' 2-0 win at St James' Park in September 2016.
Almost a year on from the incident, the Newcastle midfielder has spoken about the incident.
“No because I didn’t say what it was printed out to be." he told the Newcastle Chronicle when asked if he'd learned from the incident.
“If it was in any court of law, I would have been found not guilty.
“It just goes on the panel’s verdict.
"You just have to deal with it and get on with it."
An 11-page report of the hearing regarding Shelvey's charge stated: "It is alleged that Shelvey called Saiss an "Arab" or "Arabic" "****" and/or "p***k."
Dominic Iorfa, Matt Doherty and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson all told an FA hearing that Shelvey used derogatory racist language towards Saiss following the sending off of Vernon Anita in the game.
Newcastle manager Rafa Benitez sparked further anger after he called for the FA to investigate Wolves fans for the stick they gave Jonjo Shelvey at Molineux in the second meeting between the clubs in February.
Shelvey's team mate Jamaal Lascelles also said it was 'terrible' that the midfielder had been banned in the first place.
