Michal Zyro's delight at Wolves comeback

The 24-year-old forward last featured in the Wolves first team back in April 2016 when he was on the receiving end of an horrific tackle that caused cruciate knee ligament damage.

The end of last season came just too late for Zyro to make his comeback - but he's fully involved at the start of 2017/18 and has featured in Wolves' first two pre-season games.

Wolves beat Czech Champions League qualifiers Viktoria Plzen 2-1 on Saturday thanks to goals from Nouha Dicko - his second in two games - and Matt Doherty.

Zyro got another 45 minutes under his belt and had a goal disallowed.

He told the Express & Star: "It was okay. This is my first pre-season after two years because I joined Wolves in January (2016).

"I've really enjoyed this summer and this pre-season because I'm playing football and to prepare for the season is important for me now.

"I think every day it will be better. I'm going step by step and being patient.

"I spoke with Nouha and it's hard to pick the level up, Nouha had the same injury and he said be patient...now he's scored two goals in two games and looks very sharp.

"We all play with Wolves to get to the Premier League.

"I will do my best and give 100 per cent.

"I don't take out from my leg if there's a dangerous situation and go 100 per cent because it's football. I'll give 100 per cent."

Zyro spent almost a year on the sidelines and his first-team comeback has taken another three months.

For a young Polish footballer who had only recently moved to England, it's been tough to deal with, to say the least.

"It's hard to say (how tough) because it was a terrible time for me.

"It's just inside me...I know it's in the past but it's still inside me, what I had to do.

"It was frustrating but it was also a good lesson for me, my family, my friends and I take from this injury the opposite (emotions)."

Since Zyro's injury Wolves have hired two head coaches and sacked three, with Kenny Jackett, Walter Zenga and Paul Lambert all having moved on.

What were Zyro's emotions when he saw them being hired and fired? And is he optimistic of a good season under Nuno Espirito Santo?

"I was praying for no relegation!" Zyro said of last season. "That was my first thing in mind.

"I don't mind which manager will be in Wolves. The club needs stability which everyone knows but it's good we've changed before pre-season, so we can know each other better.

"It's now time for training, to learn what the gaffer needs and expects from us.

"It's better than it was a year ago when Kenny Jackett was sacked a week before the season.

"But it's a new owner, a new era and it's difficult. Everyone learns how it should be and now I think things are very good."
