The 24-year-old academy graduate had fallen down the pecking order with the arrival of three new centre halves at Molineux.

He impressed during a loan spell with Sheffield United last season where he won the League One title and was expected to move there permanently, but they instead moved for Ebanks-Landell's old team mate Richard Stearman.

Ebanks-Landell, who has played 50 times for Wolves, signed a new three-and-a-half year contract in January. He has flown out to MK Dons' summer training base in Hungary.

He said: "I’m excited to be here. MK Dons are a good club and hopefully I can help them have a successful season.

"It’s good to meet up with the guys straight away in Hungary. I’m looking forward to getting into action as soon as possible."

Dons boss Robbie Neilson said of his new defender: “He’s a very talented player for this level and we beat off a number of clubs, including Championship sides, to bring him here.

“His record speaks for itself having won the League One title twice in the past four years. I’m very excited about having him as part of the squad this season.”

Ebanks-Landell's temporary move takes the number of first team departures this summer to six.

Mike Williamson, James Henry and Silvio weren't offered new deals, while George Saville and Jed Wallace were sold to Millwall and Paul Gladon has gone back to former club Heracles on loan.

Wolves also decided against signing loanees Richard Stearman and Andreas Weimann on permanent deals.

Icelandic striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson should be the next to depart after a deal was agreed to sell him to Reading.

Andy Lonergan has been told he can leave, while the futures of Dominic Iorfa, Prince Oniangue and Lee Evans are in doubt after they didn't travel with Nuno Espirito Santo's first team squad to Austria.
