It was Wolves' first victory since late January but a minority of fans still booed the players at full time owing to a dreadful performance which Lambert said was their worst in months.

Weimann, though, wasn't concerned about the manner of the victory, especially as Wolves can potentially jump to 18th with some crucial breathing room if they win their game in hand at Brentford tomorrow.

“It didn't matter how we played, it was all about getting the three points," he said.

“We've played better in a lot of games where we've lost – in all those six (winless) league matches we didn't win, we might have been the better team and played good football but we lost.

“So on Saturday we maybe weren't the better team and didn't create the most chances but we won the game.

“That's all we needed to do and we've got a game in hand on Tuesday now where we can hopefully kick on.

“The manager said to us it wasn't about being pretty and playing good football, it was all about the three points, and after getting them, the mood is good.

“We've got a little bit of confidence back now and we've got another massive game on Tuesday night.

“Any away game is tough, especially Brentford, but it's our game in hand and we're going to try to make the most of it and hopefully put the points on the board."

Weimann started up front for the first time in a Wolves shirt and notched an extremely rare goal for a Molineux striker this season.

The on-loan Derby man now hopes to go on a scoring run before deciding where his future lies in the summer.

But whatever happens he feels that Wolves' young squad will be better off for the high-pressure experience of a relegation battle – if they stay up.

“Everyone felt the pressure on Saturday, but I'm enjoying this – these are the big games where you have to step up and I'm happy I got the goal.

“It's the same as a Premier League relegation battle – the pressure is just as big. Being down there isn't nice – there's a tense feeling before games but thankfully we got the win and hopefully we can kick on.

“I'd love to be the man who keeps Wolves up – obviously I want to score as many goals as I can.

“As regards my future, I haven't got a clue as to what's going to happen in the summer.

“I'm here until the end of the season and I want to keep Wolverhampton in the Championship.

“I'm sure we'll sit down at the end of the season with both clubs and whoever and we'll see what's going on.

“I've enjoyed it so far. I've got the football I wanted – that was why I came here, to get more game time so I've enjoyed that bit.

“But it's been frustrating as well losing the games. At the minute, I'm not thinking about the end of the season – we're fighting relegation and that's all we're thinking about.

“There's a lot of talent here and at 25, I'm one of the oldest!

“That tells you how many young players we've got here, so if we can get through this period, I'm sure everyone will be better for it next season because you learn a lot from these things, being at the bottom.

“If you can get through it then they will definitely be better next season."
