FA Cup: Wolves travelling support hoping for shock result

Wolves' 8,300-strong army of fans will travel to Liverpool tomorrow with dreams of causing an FA Cup upset.

The bookies are barely giving Wolves a chance – with most offering 10/1 for an away win – and it would be the first time the club has reached the fifth round since 2007/08.

But neither the odds nor Liverpool's substantial Cup pedigree has quelled optimism among Wolves supporters.

Steve Plant, who last year published a book documenting the history of the club shirt, said the home side's congested fixture list could play into Wolves' hands.

"I think Liverpool will field a slightly weakened team because they have Chelsea the following Tuesday and had to play Southampton in the League Cup on Wednesday night," he said.

"Out of those three games, Liverpool will probably see the game against us as the least important.

"Honestly, I think this is the biggest game Wolves have played for a long, long time."

Muriel Bates, who helps runs the Wolves Official Supporters' Club with her husband Albert, said the FA Cup is still considered a special competition by many fans.

"It is the only competition I haven't been to Wembley for as I couldn't get tickets when we last won it in 1960," she said.

Punjabi Wolves member, Andy Sahota, is travelling to the game with around 30 other members of the group.

He said: "A lot of us were born in the 1970s and 1980s and a lot of our Asian friends support Liverpool who back then were the biggest team around.

"A lot of them will be sitting in the Kop and there is going to be great banter before and after the game."
