Wolves appeal against Carl Ikeme's red card

Wolves have launched an appeal against the red card Carl Ikeme received during Saturday's 3-1 defeat at Norwich City.

The 30-year-old was sent off for pushing Norwich's Wes Hoolahan after the midfielder won a penalty with the score at 1-1.

Ikeme felt Hoolahan had dived and pushed Hoolahan in the chest.

As it stands Ikeme will be banned for three matches and miss Saturday's FA Cup fourth round tie against Liverpool at Anfield.

Wolves said today: "Wolves have lodged an appeal for wrongful dismissal against Carl Ikeme's red card at Norwich on Saturday.

"The written and video evidence in support of the appeal has been submitted to the Football Association ahead of today's 5pm deadline."

On Sunday the keeper took to Twitter to accuse Hoolahan of 'blatantly' diving over him to win the spot-kick.

"Been mulling over whether to say anything or not," Ikeme said. "Some will say don't react. I understand your point.

"It's hard not to be frustrated when someone blatantly dives to win a penalty then dives again when pushed on his chest.

"I supposed you live and learn but this one is hard to take. I apologise if anyone feels let down.

"A lot of Norwich fans not happy. I have nothing against your club or Wes. These things happen in football so we just move on."

The appeal will be heard before Saturday's game.

Youngster Harry Burgoyne is next in line to play in goal should the appeal fail. Regular back-up Andy Lonergan has been sidelined recently with a knee injury and may not be fit, while Jon Flatt is currently out on loan at National League side Barrow.
