Wolves striker Joe Mason relieved to bounce back from horror miss
Match-winner Joe Mason spoke of his relief at finding the net for Wolves – especially so soon after his horror miss at Sheffield Wednesday.
Mason missed an open goal from a couple of yards at Hillsborough but was Wolves' hero at Molineux on Saturday when the netted the only goal of the game after 15 minutes.
It was also the 25-year-old's first Wolves goal since August 20.
And a beaming Mason said: "It was an enjoyable moment. Obviously with the chance I had a few weeks ago it was nice to get a goal as soon as possible to get that off my mind.
"It was really nice to see it hit the back of the net
"I was just making sure I hit this one down! It's been playing on my mind. It's one of those horror moments you wish never happens, but I've come through it strong and the goal will only help.
"It's been a while since I scored. That'll do me wonders."
Mason had missed two months of action with a hernia problem but has started Wolves' last three matches.
He's delighted to be back – and feels Wolves can start climbing the table, especially with the best team spirit he's ever known at a club.
"I was flagging a bit towards the end but every game I'm feeling better. I'm not 100 per cent but I'm not far away," Mason added. "I like playing in the 10 position, getting into pockets and making things happen.
"I was happy how it went.
"It's really tight-knit at the minute. I've never been in a team that's been so close-knit, especially with the fans as well.
"Sometimes football can be a bit out of touch but it feels really close at the minute.
"There are a lot of games left to play. We've been playing really well without winning. The QPR defeat was the killer.
"Hopefully we go on a run now and keep that momentum going.
"There are big games coming up and they're the ones you want to play in."
