Wolves' Danny Batth: Let's not get carried away

Skipper Danny Batth says Wolves' much-needed 2-0 win at Nottingham Forest is 'just a start' – as he praised the team's hotshot Portuguese duo.

Goals from Helder Costa and Ivan Cavaleiro moved Paul Lambert's team five points clear of relegation.

It was only Wolves' second win in 13 matches.

And Batth said there was no need to get carried away, despite the good result.

"It's just a win, it's a start," the captain said. "It's how we carry on from here that counts.

"Winning games and keeping clean sheets is what we want to be achieving.

"We need to do it more often. We're not getting carried away.

"I thought our front four were brilliant and we justly scored two goals.

"We kept the ball a bit better, which means we're not defending as much. And the game management at the end when we were 2-0 up was good.

"The way we came out in the second half was much better than Tuesday (against Cardiff).

"After that game it was about recovery, dusting ourselves down and learning the lessons.

"We're not even halfway through (the season) yet – teams know there's plenty of time to turn seasons around and likewise we're one that wants to kick on.

"The first goal in the Championship is massive. We went through a period in November where we were leaking the first goal often and it was giving us a mountain to climb.

"I wouldn't say we've turned the corner with that but we're making strides to do better."

The game saw Brierley Hill-born Batth make his 250th career appearance, while Richard Stearman moved into the top 50 Wolves appearance makers of all time in his 241st match for the club.

Batth said of his milestone: "It feels like 500! No I'm joking, it's a nice achievement for myself and my family. Hopefully I've got many more to come and for Wolves.

"The main thing you learn is when things are bad don't beat yourself up about it and when things are good don't go shouting from the rooftops.

"I want to crack on and make sure the next 250 are more successful.

"Taking Wolves to the Premier League is my goal."

Batth has seen plenty of creative flair players in his time at Molineux.

Where do Costa and Cavaleiro rate? "They're up there," he said. They're coming on brilliantly.

"If they keep performing and adjusting the way they are we've got a hell of a couple of players on our hands.

"They're big game players. It's about giving them the ball and letting them express themselves."
