A Wolves book with a difference is flying off the shelves this Christmas – and a charity is continuing to feel the benefit.

They Wore the Shirt is the first book of its kind to chronicle the history of Wolves' shirts from over the years.

Compiled by Wolves fanatic Steve Plant, it was published in October and £7,000 was handed over to Birmingham Children's Hospital during the launch night.

Another £15,000 was donated this week – and there's more to come.

Mr Plant said: "We were aiming for £20,000 – we've got £22,000 and we've still got more money to come in.

"We're aiming for £30,000 now. Everybody at the club and the Express & Star have been fantastic.

"If they and the players hadn't have got involved we couldn't have done it.

"There are only 200 copies left and we think it'll sell out in the next couple of weeks.

"Everything has gone perfect. There's a lot of stress involved in putting a book together but now it's done I'm starting to feel really proud."

A new ale was even launched to mark the book by Three Tuns Brewery.

Wolves skipper Danny Batth said: "It's a great idea for a book and the fans who haven't read it will be dying to get stuck into it – I'm sure there'll be a few in some Christmas stockings this year.

"It's all for a great cause and the kids at Birmingham Children's Hospital will benefit.

"I've had a good look through the book and took it on the coach to an away game. The lads passed it around and were keen to see the history of the shirt.

"Some of it hasn't been that well documented either so it's a great project."
