George Saville: Wolves are ready to up the pace

George Saville believes Paul Lambert's high intensity approach will pay off for Wolves in the Championship.

The Scottish boss has made no secret of his desire for Wolves to play with more tempo.

It was evident during the 0-0 draw at Preston on Saturday, especially in the early and latter stages of the game.

And midfielder Saville said: "His approach is to look for high intensity from us and I think that is massive in this league to win games.

"Some games in the Championship, it is very hard to play pretty football. All the games are very hard to win.

"The main thing is to be 'in' every game and give yourselves a chance to win.

"That is what it was like at Preston – it certainly wasn't pretty at all. But we took a great point and that gives us something to build on."

Saville started his first league game since August 27 in the draw at Deepdale.

He was pleased to be in the starting XI again and will now look to keep his place for Saturday's visit of Sheffield Wednesday.

"It was good to be back involved – every player wants to play," Saville added.

"We've had a good couple of weeks under the new gaffer.

"It was a good point away from home and something to build on. I think when a new head coach comes in, especially one like the gaffer that has come in, it gives everyone a clean slate.

"He has done that with all of us and then it is up to us to respond and put the performances in."

Saville played wide left at Deepdale – does he have a preference where he plays? "Any player is happy when they are in the team," the 23-year-old said.

"It is not my natural position but I still enjoy it and played there last season and scored a couple of goals from there as well.

"I think the gaffer is looking for me to give a bit of balance across the midfield and it is up to me to perform there."

Wolves now welcome Sheffield Wednesday to Molineux looking to end an eight-game winless streak which stretches back to September.

It's their longest run without a victory since a 13-game drought in the Championship relegation season of 2012/13, a run that included the sacking of Norwegian boss Stale Solbakken

Saville said of Saturday's clash against the Owls: "Now we are back to a home game and it is up to us to put another performance in.

"We are all going to be putting in 100 per cent every game and the workrate will not be questioned.

"We will be giving our best every week and hopefully results will come.

"Once we get a few results I think confidence will grow and things can start to happen for us.

"We've got some great fans here and we know we need to get them results at home.

"You could see on Saturday what great fans we have with the following we took to Preston.

"We haven't had the best results at home and we need to go out there on Saturday and give them something to cheer about."
