Rob Edwards hopes to be involved under new Wolves boss
Interim boss Rob Edwards was left frustrated after Wolves extended their winless run to seven games with a 3-2 home defeat to Derby County.
Goals from Tom Ince and Darren Bent put Derby 2-0 up before Wolves finally made a game of it in the second half with Helder Costa pulling a goal back.
An Ince penalty restored Derby's two-goal advantage and David Edwards' late goal was too little too late.
It was Edwards' last game in temporary charge, with Paul Lambert set to be imminently announced as Wolves' new boss.
And he said of the defeat: "The first half wasn't good enough and I said to the lads "the first goal (in the second half) is all-important now.
"We got that next goal and at 2-1 we were right back in the game. Then they got the next one. It's all ifs, buts and maybes but I said that somewhere in the country someone will come from 2-0 down, let's try and make it us. And we had a right good go.
"I saw the response I was looking for. It was a positive, hard-working group of players that tried everything to get back into the game.
"The goal got the fans going and the place rocking. I can't fault their attitude or commitment. They stayed together as a team in difficult circumstances and I was proud of them in the second half."
There was a toxic atmosphere at Molineux in the first half with fans booing captain Danny Batth.
Edwards said the fans were well within their rights to criticise the team - but that it didn't help.
"It's always hard when you go a goal down early. It's happened too often recently," he added.
"The fans are frustrated because over the last seven games we haven't picked up enough results and they're well within their rights to voice their frustration.
"What I will say is it does make things more difficult for everyone to do their jobs to the best of their ability when the atmosphere is like that.
"But then in the second half they got right behind the lads and showed what they're capable of, as did the players, and they bounced off each other really well.
"There are high expectations at this club and they expect good performances and results."
Wolves felt they were hard done by for Ince's penalty and that they should have had two spot kicks of their own.
Edwards said of the decisions: "I haven't seen them back yet but the players said they felt Derby's was very harsh and ours both were (penalties)."
The 33-year-old is expected to stay at the club after Lambert has taken over.
He said he had enjoyed his two games in charge, despite the results.
"It's been a great experience for me," Edwards said. "Ultimately points are what matter and we haven't got enough over the two games.
"That frustrates me and will probably frustrate me, selfishly, for quite a long time.
"I feel that we've tried to stabilise things as best as possible.
"The next person that takes over will inherit a really good group of people.
"I'll take time to reflect on it but overall it's been a great experience. I've enjoyed almost every minute of it.
"I hope I'm involved. The person that comes in now will want people they can work with and trust.
"I've committed myself to this football club and I hope that's the case."
