Next Wolves manager: Rob Edwards says he'll serve the club

Rob Edwards insists he hasn't applied for the Wolves job – as it's believed Paul Lambert held a second round of talks with the club.

Wolves are approaching the final stage of their managerial search, with an appointment looking likely to take place next week unless there was a dramatic twist today.

It's thought Lambert remains in pole position for the post but Wolves are yet to make a decision. Nigel Pearson is still in the running and there may yet be a move for a mystery third candidate.

Reports suggest Tim Sherwood could be that man but it's unclear if he is still involved in discussions.

Interim boss Edwards admitted he has had discussions with Fosun supremo Jeff Shi and sporting director Kevin Thelwell, but stopped short of calling it an interview.

"I haven't applied," he said. "They know what I want to do long-term (management).

"I've been open about that and at some stage it's something I definitely want to do.

"If it's this club – fantastic. It would be amazing. But saying that, they know also that I want to do whatever is best for the club. And they're going to pick whoever is right for the club.

"I have quite regular conversations with them because they're always around the training ground.

"I've had a couple of meetings explaining what we're doing, why we're doing it, what we've been working on, and they've been really supportive.

"I've had regular conversations in the past week or so. I wouldn't say it's an interview as such.

"I can't think of (these games) as an audition. Everyone keeps saying about me, but it's not about me, it's about the players.

"If they perform you get praise, but if they don't then that is down to me.

"It's not about whether I do well, I can't think like that, I have to concentrate on my job."

Edwards was first-team coach under both Kenny Jackett and Walter Zenga.

He said he would have no qualms if he returned to a similar role under whoever the next boss is.

"I certainly hope I'll still be here," he added. "I've enjoyed every role I've had at the club and it's a club that's really dear to me.

"If someone else comes in, I'm more than happy to do whatever they want, as long as they want me to.

"I feel I can bring a lot. I'll serve this club in whatever way they want me to. And to the best of my ability.

"There's been investment, there's expectation at this club and if it means someone else coming in I'll work however they want me to work."
