Blackburn 1 Wolves 1 - player ratings

Wolves correspondent Tim Spiers rates the players as Rob Edwards' first game in charge finishes 1-1 at Blackburn.

Published

Carl Ikeme

Nothing he could do for the goal. Produced an excellent save late in the first half from Ben Marshall. Wolves will certainly hope his hip injury isn't too serious. 7/10

Matt Doherty

Good to see him given permission to get forward after Walter Zenga's preference for his full-backs to sit back robbed Doherty of an important part of his game. The Irishman duly popped up with an assist and almost scored a late winner. He was poor defensively in the first half though and conceded possession too easily. 7/10

Danny Batth

Stood off Gallagher for the goal. A magnificent finish from the Blackburn man, yes, but Batth needed to be tighter. The same happened at Brighton recently when Sam Baldock headed home a cross. Batth was also lucky not to be sent off when he took Gallagher out while on a booking (albeit the first booking was very harsh). Too many of his errors have led to goals recently. The skipper's early-season form is sorely missed. 5/10

Kortney Hause

Poor clearance in the build-up to the goal and he looked like he always had a mistake in him. Better in the second half. 6/10

Cameron Borthwick-Jackson

Didn't do enough to stop the cross for Blackburn's early goal but otherwise he did well. Showed his class at times and got forward to good effect. Looked more confident that in his previous performances too. Good to see him back in the team as he has clearly has something to offer Wolves this season. 7/10

Conor Coady

Three sightings of goal in the first half and he'll have been disappointed not to score. Switched to the defensive midfield role vacated by Saiss after the break and was often the man to get Wolves going. Shows great leadership in midfield. 7/10

Romain Saiss

Wayward in the first half, both in his passing and his positioning. Didn't last long after the break as Rob Edwards went for Teixeira's more attacking approach. 5/10

David Edwards

Rob Edwards needed the players to show they were playing for him and Edwards certainly did that. Popped up in great positions on several occasions, missed a couple of good chances but kept going and scored a vital goal. Wolves need experience and leadership at the moment and Edwards gives them that. In good form of late. 7/10

Helder Costa

Had Charlie Mulgrew on toast in the first half but his final ball wasn't quite there. With the quality he possesses he needs to be doing more. 6/10

Jon Dadi Bodvarsson

Looks like he needs a rest. Did well to create two chances in the first half, showing excellent awareness, but otherwise he wasn't at his physical best and found it tough against Blackburn's two centre halves. Wolves need more from him as their game plan falls apart without him. But he looks, to be blunt, knackered. 5/10

Jed Wallace

His first start since September 13 but Wallace didn't impress, albeit from his unfavoured position of left wing. Made no positive impact going forward and it wasn't a surprise to see him withdrawn. His day was summed up by his ballooned first half cross. 4/10

Substitutes

Andy Lonergan (for Ikeme, 45)

His league debut for Wolves and the keeper kept an impressive second-half clean sheet, making two important saves. 7/10

Joao Teixeira (for Saiss, 55)

Added both creativity and vision to Wolves' play. Visibly frustrated with a lack of movement ahead of him at times. 7/10

Ivan Cavaleiro (for Wallace, 66)

Has flattered to deceive in recent substitute appearances but this was his best cameo for a while. Gave Wolves urgency and quality from out wide. Perhaps time to start him next week. 7/10

Subs not used: Silvio, Stearman, Saville, Dicko.
