Walter Zenga sacked: The highs and lows of his time at Wolves

Walter Zenga lasted less than three months at Molineux, with performances clearly falling short of what was expected by the club's new owners. But what were the highs and lows of his time with Wolves?

High - August 20th Birmingham City 1-3 Wolves

Walter Zenga's win over Birmingham City was arguably his biggest win of his short tenure at Molineux.

It was a dream derby for Zenga when they travelled to St. Andrew's in the midst of August.

Despite a poor first half Wolves came out firing in the second 45 minutes and put Birmingham to the sword with Joe Mason, Danny Batth and Jon Dadi Bodvarrson all getting on the score sheet.

The travelling fans were left jubilant following the result, already getting a hand up on their local rivals so early in the season.

Low - August 13th Wolves 0-4 Barnsley

Wolves suffered their heaviest home defeat for four years against Barnsley.

After what proved to be a promising, but albeit mixed start to his tenure, Zenga raised serious question marks about his ability to manage the Championship club when Wolves crumbled to a 4-0 defeat at home to Barnsley.

What made things worse for Zenga was that it was such an astonishing collapse, with the scores level with 20 minutes remaining.

However, with four goals in 19 minutes, the home support was left fuming by the display.

High - September 17th Newcastle 0-2 Wolves

With high-flying Newcastle finding their stride in the Championship, not many expected Wolves to get a result at St. James' Park.

However in what proved one of the best performances of the season, Wolves dominated the recently relegated team from start to finish.

An Mbemba own goal followed by a Helder Costa strike gave Zenga the victory, leaving Wolves fans believing that talk of promotion could be well-warranted.

Low - September 27th Wigan 2-1 Wolves

Wolves' loss to Wigan had many questioning his management ability.

Whilst no game is easy in the second tier of English football, many had their money on Wolves to cruise by one of the league's struggling clubs in Wigan Athletic.

After an early blow via Adam Le Fondre, Wolves did recover to make things level before half time.

However, Will Grigg stole all three points in the 88th minute to break travelling fans' hearts.

Low - October 22nd Wolves 0-1 Leeds United

Walter Zenga's last game in charge was the 1-0 loss against Leeds.

In what proved Zenga's final game in charge, Wolves showed their inconsistency in its clearest form, losing 1-0 to Leeds United, once again leaving the home fans wanting.

It was a loss which really pushed the pressure onto the Italian, with fans calling for his job following a run of five games without a win.
