Wolves 0 Leeds 1 - Report and pictures
[gallery] Leeds dealt Wolves and Walter Zenga a hammer blow as they won 1-0 at Molineux.
Silvio's 71st-minute goal was enough to give the visitors all three points as Wolves slipped to their fourth defeat in five matches.
Zenga's team created some decent chances in the first half - and in injury time at the end of the game - but drew a blank for the second consecutive game.
Analysis
Walter Zenga told his players he wanted them to enjoy this game.
Well, they didn't. Neither did Zenga. And neither did 20,000 very disappointed Wolves fans.
Wolves were underwhelming almost throughout and lacked the industry of their opponents who fought and scrapped their way to victory.
Joao Teixeira and Helder Costa showed flashes of flair and occasional brilliance - but it wasn't enough. Wolves shaded the first half, Leeds the second, but the home team just couldn't find the net.
Bereft of confidence, they played more like 11 individuals than a team.
And serious questions will now be asked of Zenga, who knows he must deliver a team good enough to challenge for promotion this season.
On this evidence Wolves are nowhere near.
The first half was a scrappy affair for the most part. Both central midfields were playing in treacle (although David Edwards was outstanding at breaking up Leeds' play) and it was left to the game's flair players - Wolves' Teixeira and Costa and Leeds' Kemar Roofe and Hadi Sacko - to provide the entertainment.
That they did, but poor finishing from each man meant the half was goalless.
Leeds frustrated Wolves with their aggression and histrionics, not helped by fussy referee Stuart Attwell.
The home side did create the better chances and should certainly have put a couple away, but it wasn't to be.
And unlike most games this season, Zenga's team were far better in the first half than they were in the second...to their cost.
Aside from a speculative (and wonderful) 30-yard shot from Costa which was mere inches over Rob Green's bar, they offered precious little in attack.
Leeds kept plugging away and then took advantage of an horrendous Matt Doherty error to take the lead 19 minutes from time, with Sacko crossing into the box where Silvio slid past his own keeper ahead of the advancing Roofe.
As usual Zenga wasn't shy with his substitutions but this time they made little impact, apart from when Ola John chipped a cross towards Costa who blazed over in injury time.
It summed up Wolves' day. The home fans began the afternoon singing Zenga's name. At full time they booed his team off.
Key moments
18 - Nouha Dicko latches onto a dreadful back-header by Leeds but his shot is blocked by Robert Green.
24 - Joao Teixeira curls just past the post from 25 yards.
38 - Leeds forward Hadi Sacko is through on goal after hestitation by Matt Doherty - he shoots from 15 yards and the shot clips the top of the bar.
39 - Jon Dadi Bodvarsson's shot is blocked and the ball breaks to Teixeira six yards out - but Green saves his effort. Great chance.
39 - And now Kemar Roofe heads inches wide from a Charlie Taylor cross, with the game really opening up.
45+1 - Teixeira sends the ball across the face of goal and Costa fires wide via a deflection. Another great chance.
64 - Costa turns and fires goalwards from all of 30 yards. It's a sensational effort that brushes the top of the net.
65 - Chris Wood stings Carl Ikeme's palms from the right of the box.
71 - GOAL - A dreadful error from Matt Doherty who lets the ball bounce off his heel - Sacko nips in and plays inside where Silvio slides the ball past his own keeper.
87 - Wood should put Wolves out of their misery but fires over from 12 yards.
90 - A golden chance to equalise. Ola John puts it on a plate for Costa with a perfect chip to the back post...but he blazes over the bar.
Man of the Match
David Edwards - a terrier in midfield, particular in the first half.
