Wolves boss Walter Zenga: Let's enjoy our football
Wolves boss Walter Zenga has told his players to go out and enjoy themselves as they look to get back to winning ways tomorrow.
Zenga's team host Leeds United at Molineux hoping to end a poor run of form which has seen them pick up just one point from four matches.
The Italian, firstly reflecting on the last two results (1-1 at Villa and a 1-0 defeat at Brighton) said he preferred to concentrate on how well his side played.
"If we evaluate and analyse 'one draw, one loss' it's negative," he said. "But I know that football now - 'point, win, we are happy' or 'point, lose we are unhappy'.
"So we also have to evaluate how the team play, how the team performs.
"In the last three games we've played against three giant clubs - Norwich and Villa came from the Premier and Brighton missed promotion by the difference of the average of the goals.
"And our team didn't show anything bad in these three games.
"The results, we only got one point, but in the performance not one team dominate us.
"It's difficult to play away at Villa and Brighton and have more possession, shots, everything.
"We have to evaluate the two things together.
"If you continue to play in the right mentality and improve something, the result is coming.
Wolves have netted four times in their past four matches and only three teams have scored fewer goals at home in the Championship.
Zenga said he wanted to give confidence to his players.
"About scoring less goals...yes it's true," he added. "But the coach must give to the team confidence and positive things.
"The things I think about...the team working good? Yes. The team has a good feeling? Yes. The team has a good relationship with the coach? I hope so! The squad is in progress? Yes. If all the questions are in this way...we have to continue to work.
"We are unhappy, of course. But the goal against Burton - 96 minutes. The penalty not given against Birmingham? With these things...four points and we're talking about us going to the Premier!
"I know football now is only about the guys that stay at home, can say 'oh what is with Wolves...they lost, blah, blah blah'. This is not the way.
"Our goal is to stay close to the play-offs until December and then we know what we have to do."
Like Wolves, Leeds also have a new manager in Garry Monk and signed a host of new players in the summer (11).
Zenga said of tomorrow's opponents: "The difference between me and him (Monk) is he has the experience of two years at Swansea in the Premier.
"But he's from here so doesn't have to understand more things than me. The difficulty he has is the same that I have.
"I expect a difficult game because Leeds is a very strong, tough team, they are very aggressive - which doesn't mean they don't respect, it's a good attitude.
"We have to bring the fans on our side, think positive and win the game, with all the respect for our opponents."
And Zenga's message to his players tomorrow?
"Play football, enjoy it. We play in a nice stadium, nice pitch, very important game. Don't think. The best performances come when you don't think too much.
"Play to enjoy, because it's a good day. Respect the opponent and do your best."
