Carl Ikeme: We have set the standard at Wolves

Carl Ikeme believes Wolves have set the standard for the season with their second-half performance at Villa Park, saying: "That's as good as we've been."

Wolves created several chances and dominated Villa but couldn't find the winning goal and had to settle for a 1-1 draw from a feisty West Midlands derby.

Ikeme admitted there was disappointment in the dressing room .

But he called on the team to reproduce the performance in tomorrow's trip to fourth-placed Brighton.

"We've set the standards," Ikeme said.

"We were under pressure for parts of the first half but the second half was as dominant as we've been.

"I thought we played really well – as good as we've played. I don't think we've dominated a game like that all season.

"We're disappointed not to win the game in the end. We were comfortable at the back and had quite a few chances and on another day could have won by two or three.

"We've been missing a bit of consistency. We've looked good in spells but not done it back-to-back – that's what we'll look for this week.

"The boys have ran a lot and we need to recover for Tuesday.

"If you'd asked us at the start we'd have taken a point. But it's hard to be too disappointed when you've played that well.

"I think the reaction from our fans at the end shows how dominant we were. We couldn't have done much more apart from hit the net. We're disappointed we didn't win."

Sutton Coldfield-born Ikeme was playing at Villa Park in a professional game for the first time in his career.

How did he enjoy the derby-day experience? "It was a great atmosphere and a proper derby – I loved it," Ikeme said.

"I've not played here before in a real game, just at youth level.

"It was a proper derby. Sometimes they can be a bit cagey but it was exciting to play in and I'm sure it was exciting to watch. There was a lot of drama and controversy.

"The Villa fans were alright to be fair, quite friendly. It's not like Millwall or anything like that! Just a bit of banter, I'm a big boy and I can take it!

"It'll be a different game on Tuesday, Brighton are a good team and it's always a tough place to go.

"We'll be resting up and recovering properly. I'm looking forward to it.

"If we keep performing like that we'll win more games than we lose."
