Ivan Cavaleiro on his 'special' first Wolves goal - and adapting to the Championship
Record signing Ivan Cavaleiro said it was a 'special feeling' to score his first Wolves goal – but admits it's difficult to adapt to the Championship.
The Portuguese international winger came off the bench to seal Wolves' 3-1 victory over Brentford with a stoppage-time goal on the counter attack.
Cavaleiro, who moved from Monaco on transfer deadline day, hopes his strike is the first of many.
He said: "I enjoyed that. I'm very happy to get my first goal and the most important thing is the team winning.
"We've got six points from two games and we want to continue scoring and winning.
"It was a special feeling because it was my first goal and we need goals to get confidence and it was good."
Ex-Benfica man Cavaleiro has only started one of five matches since his £7m switch.
He thanked his team mates for helping him settle in at Molineux, but admitted he's still learning about the physical side of the English game.
"I'm enjoying it but it is very difficult," he said. "They run too much and it is difficult but I have to learn with them (my team mates).
"They are very good at helping me to improve my game. I'm lucky to be here at Wolves and I want to continue scoring and help my team mates.
"The British players are helping me so much and I say thank you because they are very good people and helping me and the other Portuguese and French players."
What has Walter Zenga's message been to Cavaleiro about why he's only started one game?
"I did pre-season but I didn't play too much and now I am trying to get better," the winger replied.
"He just said I have to defend better because in this league we have to attack and defend more and I am just trying to get his message."
And on the difference between playing in Portugal, where he learned his trade, and the English Championship, he added: "The physical side and, like I said, they run too much. That is the difference.
"Portuguese football is more slow and more technical and that is the difference."
However the £7m price tag certainly doesn't add any pressure onto the shoulders of the 22-year-old, who had moved from Benfica to Monaco for around £13m last summer.
"It is not bringing me pressure," he said. "The team is very good and the people around me are helping me.
"It is not pressure for me and I just want to improve myself and start playing more because the last year I was injured for seven months.
"Now I want to play and improve myself.
"We are doing a good team together and together we can achieve our objectives and get stronger and win the games."
The games are coming thick and fast for Wolves, with 12 matches played since last month's season-opener at Rotherham on August 6.
That's not an issue for Cavaleiro though, who said he's done it all before.
"My second year when I was 19, I played for Benfica and we played Saturday in the championship and Wednesdays in the Champions League," he said.
"Even last year at Monaco we played championship and Europa League so it is not nothing new for me.
"I like to play like this. We have a lot of games and the coach can put in other players and we can recover. Having a big squad is important for us."
Fellow Portuguese man Joao Teixeira starred in Saturday's 3-1 win and Cavaleiro can see why he's a fans' favourite.
He added: "He is a good player, is good technically and has a good head. he is improving himself and it is good for him to score goals and make assists.
"The most important thing is that the team can win and we can go up to the Premier League. That is our objective.
"The fans are excited by someone who takes people on and goes past them. It is good for the fans. He must continue doing that."
