After two games in Newcastle it's back to Molineux for Wolves as they host Dean Smith's Brentford.

Wolves' are winless in their last three home league games and Lonergan, who made his third appearance for the club in Tuesday's EFL Cup defeat at Newcastle, wants to put that right.

He said: "Hopefully we can just get back to winning ways on Saturday because I think the fans deserve a victory.

"I feel that coming. The quality of training...you have your lads that play on Saturday and they do a warm-down on Sunday and the so-called reserves are doing full training and there are 12 or 13 international players. It's a great position to be in.

"The changes at the club have been really positives. I can't speak highly enough of the staff."

Silvio and Ola John were the latest of Wolves' 13 summer signings to make their debuts on Tuesday.

The Portuguese international and the Dutch winger played 90 and 45 minutes respectively in Wolves' 2-0 defeat.

Lonergan said of the pair: "I thought Silvio had a good, solid game. He was quite quiet – everything came down Cameron's side, who's a fantastic young player.

"From his first training session we saw that he was a quality, quality footballer. It's no surprise that he's just slotted straight in.

"Credit to Ola, when he came on he was outstanding. He's waited very patiently, he's always got a smile on his face and nothing gets him down. He showed his quality."

Goals from Matt Ritchie and Yoan Gouffran in the space of two first-half minutes won the tie for Magpies.

Lonergan felt Wolves were a little hard done by.

In his assessment of the cup tie, the experienced keeper said: "Other than the minute when we've conceded two goals I thought we gave a really good account of ourselves.

"The big picture is we got beat 2-0 and we're not happy but a lot of the lads haven't played for a while and put in a shift against pretty much their full-strength team.

"I think we were stuck between trying to play football and doing the dirty work.

"When we went 1-0 down it wasn't a disaster – it happens in games – but we should have taken the centre and put it as far enough into their half as possible. We tried to work it a bit and we got caught.

"Hats off to Gouffran for the strike, you can't legislate for that, but it's what happens before that you can.

"It was a quality ball from one of the best players in the league and we failed to contain him for a little while.

"I think the crowd were potentially getting on their back a bit but the goal has lifted them and then it was always going to be difficult to come back.

"We probably didn't use Paul (Gladon) and Jon (Dadi Bodvarsson) as much as we could. We could have gone a bit longer but we were trying to do the right things and left it too late.

"I had nothing to do, really. I've been to St James' Park and had really good games and been beaten by a few more.

"Dom (Iorfa) and Kortney (Hause) were very mature and they deserved a clean sheet.

"I'm pleased for them because they're both good lads who work hard."
