Penalty hero Carl Ikeme hails Wolves squad

"We need them to adjust but they are all quality players and they will adjust."

Carl Ikeme is confident that Wolves' many new signings will adapt to Championship life. Twelve new players have changed the face of the club in the space of just a few weeks - and it seems the words "squad rotation" will be heard regularly at Molineux over the coming months.

Ivan Cavaleiro, Paul Gladon and Cameron Borthwick-Jackson played their first games for the club on Saturday and the likes of Romain Saiss, Silvio and Ola John are still yet to feature.

Ikeme - one of a small number of players you'd say were guaranteed to start at Molineux tonight against high-flying Barnsley - believes that having a strong bench in particular could make a big difference for Wolves in their 46-game season.

He said: "We have got a big squad now and the gaffer wants to keep everyone involved so I think we will see a lot of rotation and everyone will feel they are close to playing.

"It is probably in stark contrast to what we had last season and even the season before.

"There was the chance to bring people like Jon (Dadi Bodvarsson) and Mase (Joe Mason) off the bench who can change the game.

"Previously we have had a good starting 11 but maybe not impact players who can come on and make a difference from the bench.

"We have got that now, and I think everyone is going to be involved and that is what the gaffer wants."

Ikeme was centre stage against Burton on Saturday, saving a first-half penalty when he score was at 0-0.

He said of the save: "It's about time I chose the right way!

"I was buzzing afterwards, it's the only chance I get to feel like I have scored a goal!

"I was delighted at the time but then it seems a long time ago when you concede a goal in injury time which costs you the three points."

A couple of minutes before the spot-kick the big keeper showed off his silky skills when he fooled Burton striker Jamie Ward with a Cruyff turn in his own six-yard box.

However, it's not the kind of skill he's planning to make a habit of producing during matches.

"It's not the sort of thing I'll do again and I don't practice it – was just spur of the moment!" Ikeme said.

"I grew up with Jamie Ward and know him well so it was good to do it to him!

"Hopefully I won't have to try and pull that one out again but it happened without even thinking about it.

"I was delighted to get away with it, and delighted it was on Jamie!

"I don't actually think about doing it, it just kinds of happened. Must be the Power League in me!"
