The 24-year-old 6ft 3in forward has moved from German club Kaiserslautern for a fee of around £1m.

Bodvarsson has signed a three-year contract at Molineux and follows Helder Costa, Silvio and Joao Texeira to the club as the first new signings of the Fosun era.

The new signing said: "It's a club with great ambition, a good history and fantastic facilities so, when that all fits in, then it's an easy decision and I'm really, really happy.

"There's been a lot of dialogue between Wolves and Kaiserslautern, so obviously it's been a little chaotic, but the clubs have come to agreement and now I can't wait to start.

"I grew up watching the Premier League and the Championship. English football is very popular in Iceland so it's been a great ambition of mine to play in English football.

"I like the style of play and there's something about the football that's always attracted me.

"Wolves is a club that I've always known about, I remember watching them in the Premier League.

"I know what kind of club Wolves is, it's a really attractive club with great and high ambitions.

"They want to be at the top level, I know it will take time but hopefully we can get there as soon as possible."

Bodvarsson had only moved to Kaiserslautern from Norwegian club Viking in January.

His career record reads 27 goals in 139 games and he has won 25 Iceland caps.

Bodvarsson also starred for Iceland at Euro 2016, scoring in the victory over Austria and featuring in all five of their games (starting in the famous win against England) during an astonishing run to the quarter finals.

"It was unbelievable," he said. "We managed to surprise a lot of people as well as ourselves. I'm just really grateful for having that experience.

"Not every player gets that opportunity in his career and to go that far was unbelievable."

Wolves kick off their Championship season at Rotherham on Saturday. Bodvarsson said it will take time for the new players and management to settle in.

"Confidence is a vital part of football," he added. "I hope we will start the season well and build from that.

"We've got some new players and a new structure. Maybe that will take a little time, but I have a good feeling about it.

"I consider myself a hard-working player. Most of all I'm a team player.

"I mainly like to play as a striker. I can play on the wing but I prefer being a striker.

"The most important target is to adapt as quickly as possible."
