Port Vale 0 Wolves 0 - Report and pictures
Wolves began the Fosun era with a drab goalless draw against Port Vale - in front of their watching new owners.
Fosun's Jeff Shi, who now sits on the Wolves board and led the takeover negotiations, arrived alongside fellow board member John Gough, writes Tim Spiers at Vale Park.
In a game of few chances, Jed Wallace and Kortney Hause went closest to winning a dire encounter.
But, in truth, the final scoreline deserved to be 0-0, and there were few positives from a Wolves perspective.
Jackett went with a similar XI that beat Crewe 2-0, with the ill Danny Batth and the sold Kevin McDonald replaced by Conor Coady - who played at right back - and Lee Evans.
At a very quiet Vale Park, where two sides of the ground were closed, Wolves created an early chance when good work from James Henry led to George Saville firing wide from the edge of the area.
Saville sent Doherty in down the left but a heavy touch was claimed by Vale goalkeeper Jak Alnwick.
But those two minor chances aside it was a dreadfully tepid first half, with neither keeper having a meaningful save to make.
Wolves struggled to make any headway from midfield, their final ball was poor and Henry and Joe Mason couldn't conjure anything up between them.
It was a half so low on quality Shi was probably wondering where he'd left his receipt. The second-half couldn't be any worse - and mercifully it wasn't.
Jackett changed things up at half time, sending on Bright Enobakhare for Evans in a switch that saw Henry move to the left and Saville inside.
Port Vale: Alnwick (Boot 71), Purkiss, Knops, Grant (Forrester 80), Streete (Macintosch 60), Smith, Thomas (Kelly 65), Tavares (Pereira 65), Cicila (Tyson 45), Foley (Amoros 65), Mbamba (Hooper 45).
Subs not used: Birchall.
Wolves (4-4-2): Ikeme; Coady, Iorfa, Hause, Doherty; Wallace, Evans (Enobakhare 45), Price, Saville; Henry, Mason.
Subs: Lonergan, Hayden, Leak, Johnson, Odoffin, O'Hanlon, Byrne, Ronan, Ennis.
Immediately, Wolves looked more potent. Henry raced down the left and sent a teasing ball inches ahead of Enobakhare in the box.
Just before the hour mark, Wallace broke clear on the counter and forced a decent save from Alnwick.
Then Henry's whipped inswinging cross saw Kortney Hause's glancing header tipped inches wide by the Vale goalkeeper.
Goalkeeper Carl Ikeme was called into serious action for the first time in the 64th minute, when he produced a superb finger-tip save to push Sam Foley's 15-yard effort over the bar.
But, thereafter, the game petered out again and a couple of blocked shots aside there was nothing to report.
Iorfa and Hause formed a solid partnership at the back, Coady was tidy at right back, Jack Price moved the ball well and Henry and Wallace were their usual busy selves.
But no one was outstanding in a poor game. Vale made eight substitutions in total but Jackett, admittedly short of first-team options, did not.
He chose to leave Nathan Byrne and Connor Ronan on the bench, ahead of Tuesday's trip to Northampton. Whether he will still be in charge for that game is unknown.
But this was the kind of performance that may have Fosun reaching for the cheque-book and bringing some much-needed quality into the Wolves squad, with or without Jackett.
